The clans were located in south america. they would shrink human heads and trade them. many tourists who would go there made the shrunken heads a lot more popular. they are known to be fierce and savage people. they do not like authority. they believed in witchcraft, sorcery, and something called blood revenge. that means that when a family member dies, they are to seek revenge for them. they spoke the shuar language.

They are pretty ruthless people and they have cruel ways of killing people. People are discouraged to visit the Jivaro's in particular because of the head-shrinking practice and it has kept people away from their territories. They believed that the spirits of their dead relatives would bless them with good crops and good fortune.

Their visits helped revolutionize the Jivaro's method of warfare, as they began trading firearms ammunition for shrunken human heads. Since the trade of human heads was becoming a big thing, the Peruvian and Ecuadorian governments to pass severe and expedient laws prohibiting the traffic of human heads. Shuar is the language that most of the clans speak. They killed 25,000 people in raids of their settlement.

They are the only culture to be known for shrinking heads, meaning they capture their enemies, kill them, and then shrink their head so wear them around their neck. The Peruvian government and Ecuadorian government have passed laws banning the trading of the shrinking heads. The clans do not approve of authority, and are cruel people. Yhey also have very vulgar ways of killing people. They are known to belive that the dead spirts will bless them with good crops and fortune. They are very superstitious people.

These people speak their own language and practice "head-hunting", killing people, removing their brains and shrinking their heads to the size of an orange. Sometimes these heads would be warn around a warriors neck to prove how many people he's killed, often people describe the Shaur as savages. However, they make money by trading. The Peruvian and Ecuadorian governments made head shrinking/ trading of these heads illegal but, the Shaur refuse to listen to authority. The Shaur believe in witch craft and that the more people dead, the better fortune they will have.

Some aspects that are relevant to their values were decapitating the heads of their enemies, shrinking them, and then making a necklace of them. The Jivaro's popularized this task and they were also known for trading weapons and ammunition for these heads. Although, the trade greatly expanded, the Ecuadorian and Peruvian governments were forced to pass laws banning this establishment. Most tribes spoke the Shar language and had very strong spiritual beliefs. Specifically, the Jivaro believed that the spirits of the dead would grant them with good luck and food. Finally, many clans were powerful and believed in fighting for earning what they wanted.

The Shuar culture originated in South America, in the region of the Andes mountains where different tribes were scattered around present day Ecuador . Their culture and their tradition of shrinking heads became known around the world in the late 19th century. All the clans in the area were very big believers in warfare. After they killed their enemies they would be head them and shrink them. The peoples of the Shuar culture did not just shrink heads for personal use, they actually used to trade them with other cultures for weapons. All the tribes in this mainly shared the same languag and the same spiritual beliefs.

Shrinking the head, is so that the spirit of the enemy is trapped, and can't get revenge. The head shrinking is a norm for them, because without it the wartime was a failure. Their values were honoring the spirits of their ancestors, and blood revenge. The Shar believe in witch craft, and superstitions. Later on, they started to trade the heads in order to acquire weapons for warfare.

ReplyDeleteThe clan of the Shaur was a clan of Indians that were from south america. This clan practice what is known as head hunting. Basically head hunting was going out and killing people and using a series of methods to shrink the heads and put them on necklaces they made. Leaders of this and other clans would do this to show their dominance over their enemies to show they were the stronger ones. The tribe even speaks the Shaur language which is their own language that they created. Also, because of tribe trading heads, they had to create laws stating that trading heads was not allowed.

Which means, that they will fight with their enemies and by making them powerful and to show off they kill their enemies leader, and shrink their heads by using poisons, and when its small like a size of an orange they wear it as a necklace and show it off to their enemies. This shows them that they are powerful and nothing gets in their way! This clan,"Shaur" has their own language to understand one another !

ReplyDeleteNative to South America, the Shaur tribe is most commonly known for their head shrinking which is the result of a victory over an enemy. Their victory would be incomplete without this head shrinking, which is considered a trophy in their eyes. The reason behind the head shrinking is to trap the spirit of the enemy attached to the head so they cannot take revenge. After a successful attack, it was custom to make a surprise attack on an enemy's village and then feast afterward. These were to show their ancestors that they fulfilled their blood revenge. It was also normal for there to be inter-tribal feuding which also resulted in blood revenge. Male children were brought up in the culture quite earlier than females, they were taught about blood revenge as early as six years old. It was a life long goal to kill one's enemy, even if they were in their own clan. They had no sense of appreciation for their own people, and did as they pleased.

The Jivaroan tribes comprised of four sub-tribes, The AShuar, Aguaruna, Huambisa and Shuar. Jivaro believed in spirits of their ancestors and the idea behind killing the enemy and taking his head was as a trophy. They also had feasts, known as amianu, numpenk and napin. Male children were taught the concept of blood revenge at an early age. They instilled a strong sense of family justice in the minds of the young.

The Jivaro believed in taking the heads of their enemy and shrinking them to the size of an orange so that they can paralyze the spirit of the enemy attached to the head so that it can not take revenge upon the person who murdered them. The Jivaro's fighting reputation and head shrinking practice discouraged explorers from going onto their land.

ReplyDeleteThey became famous for their method of shrinking heads-because of outsiders demand for these heads the shuar began to kill more as a way to barter for fire arms. The shuar did not value the heads which the outsiders took as trophies the shuar valued the soul of the enemy-they believed that the enemies soul gave them some kind of power.
After sometime the catholic jesuits established a friendship with the shuar-with this friendship they were able to convince them to do away with many of their practices all except for polygyny-they were able to encourage schooling,doctors etc, for the Jesuit priest-they gained their trust because they did not just spread the gospel they lived amoung the shuar-

ReplyDeleteThe Shuar tribe is South American. The tribe killed enemies and shrunk the heads to trade, or have it as a trophy and to bring them good fortune. This procedure is also believed to paralyze the spirit of the enemy so that they could not take revenge on their murderer, or enter the afterlife and take revenge on the murderers ancestors. Warriors believed when they killed his enemy, his own personal power increased. They value these heads, it is seen as equivalent to a Medal of Honor to an American soldier. The Shuar have their own language.

They traded things such as amunition and firearms for shrunken heads. People became very interested in buying the shrunken heads but soon they made it illegal for people to buy or sell the shrunken heads of the Shaur tribe.
