To me the Amish are really interesting because there isn't a lot of footage seen of them. What I noticed is they're extremely religious, before they converted to born again Christianity and even after. They are tearing down a house because the bible tells them too, they look to someone's advice whom they've never seen, spoken too or even know is real to make all their decisions, because they have only faith and no scientific proof. I can't imagine living my whole life according to religion, I kind of feel bad for them in a way. They don't even know what they're missing in life.
After watching the video on the Amish, I found them interesting. The Amish make their own clothes and use horses as transportation. Before the boys are welcomed into the church they are allowed to leave the amish country and see what it is like to be a normal teenager. Sometimes Amish can be kicked out of the church and forced to leave their country. They have to find a new home quick. Many people visit the Amish country and take tours to see how they live and their eating habits. I would actually go and visit the Amish country.
I've always found the Amish to be very interesting and fascinating. I knew a little about them but I didn't know much until recently. Its amazing that people are still living like this. I think its a little absurd that they have to abide by a bible that's written only in German because they basically aren't sure of what they're really following. Its also crazy how the Amish church pretty much forces people to live the way they do by constantly telling them that they're going to hell if they don't abide by their rules. In their late teens, Amish people are given the opportunity to go into the modern society to see if they want to leave the Amish and go back home. Many of them end up going back to the Amish community because they're afraid of the Church and they're afraid of being shunned.
i find the amish people to be very weird and conservative. i dont think people should take religion so seriously to the point where it runs their life. i do think it is pretty interesting that they dont use any sort of technology. they live their everyday lives just fine without technology, although things are probably a lot tougher that way. even though you said the film was going to be boring i think its pretty good. i also think its funny and ironic that they live in a town called intercourse.

I think in some ways the Amish community is nice because their very close and they are always there for eachother but I also think its sad that the family disowns the faimly members that decided if they want to leave the Amish, I feel that at least they can be able to visit these people who decide to leave without being excommunicated from the Amish

What I find pretty crazy is that the teenagers are allowed to go into the outside world, but decide to actually return back to their original Amish culture. Having seen in person how they operate and deal without technology in their daily lives, I think we should actually try to be like them as far as work ethic. I don't care what anyone says humans weren't made to just sit around and use technology. We were made to work hard & survive. The Amish do this pretty dam well without technology. They also make some kick ass homemade root beer

They go to church mostly everyday, they peach about God,when they get a new house and see if they have mold, and if it increases, then they have to knock it down and burn it and rebuild a new house from scratch, and that is just amazing! If they try to change their culture, their friends or family will shunned them, because they think they are now "devil". They make homemade food, and the best thing is root-bear,which is cool! The Amish people are nice, and kind-heart people and they always welcome anyone!
In the Amish video, I was sort of shocked by the way the society works. The fact that one man went as far as burning down a house because of mold because the bible said so. Although they were leaving the life they were still acting very irrational. Some Amish even went as far to say that the people leaving were becoming "friends with the devil" and would tell them they were going to hell. I also thought it was odd that people were automatically excommunicated just for attending a church that spoke English...which is the language they speak.
I think the Amish people are very different from us and everyone else. They feel that they will be with the devil if they don't do exactly as their cult says which is scary and the fact that the house was taken down because the bible said mold is bad is really ridiculous for someone to do. Other than that they are very religious people who live naturally without any electronic help.

Just the fact that their bible can only be in German seems like an outrageous task, especially since not many people know how to speak it. The travel by horse and buggy, or walking which must take so long. I can't even handle waiting for the bus or for stop lights to change color. Their clothing seems very heavy, and difficult to work in, but they don't take short cuts while they're working and accomplish a lot with no technology.

They are very nice people, but they don't like photography or any type of technology that will ruin their culture and all that they have built. I also thought it was strange that young adult boys were able to "wild out" with sports cars , and be rebellious to get it out of their system, but then have to make the decision of going back to their old lives. It surprised me that a lot of them went back, after seeing how much of an easy life we live today, because they whole-heartily believed they would be sent to the devil.
So it was a bit strange because they all basically look alike, dress alike-they allow their teenage boys to go into the world to live a wild life-around twenty they have to come back and live within the amish traditions and lifestyles-They only focused on the boys-not girls-if they attend a different church they get kicked out of their community and have to live elsewhere-They seem peaceful/they read the bible in a different way-this lifestyle seems extremely rigid and one sided-it really doesn't give you much room to stray away from their beliefs.

However, when they are teenagers they get to leave the Amish and decide whether they would like to come back or not, but most do.
