  1. Massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School was a sad experience for the children, teachers, for the victim's parents, and even for the United States of America. No one knows why Adam Lanza did it. He was 20 years old; people say he was very quiet and very bright boy. He had a mental illness, and his parent had a divorce when he was little. So maybe he was fighting with himself, wanting people to understand him or to listen to him. When he killed 20 children, his mother, his brother, and even other teachers, he realized what he did wrong, and shot himself.

  2. we will never know the motive behind the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting because the shooter committed suicide when the authorities got there after killing 20 children between the ages of 6 and 7 and 5 teachers along with his own mother. He was clearly mentally ill and perhaps if treatment was given to him to help him work out his problems, this shooting could have been prevented. This shooting has reignited the long debated issue of gun control. however, there is no way of knowing that this would have been prevented if we had stricter gun control. this shooting was obviously premeditated and the shooter could have found another way to obtain guns than by stealing them from his mother who was a gun collector.

  3. I am speechless when it comes to talking about this shooting. It is actually very disturbing and awful that a person can do this. There was obviously something wrong with this man. There is no way a person can kill children without a problem. I think he needed attention from his mother or other people thats why he got the gun and went on a rampage. After the shooting he must have realized what he did was wrong so he took his own life. I think this whole situation could have been avoided if he had someone to talk to or was given the attention he needed.

  4. I can't even think of a reason why a person would think to kill so many innocent children out of no where and even his own mother. He must have had mental problems to get to that point because he even took away his own life. I imagine that he had problems with his mother because why else would he do something that terrible. I heard that he had mental problems since he was little such as some sort of autism i dont know if thats true but if it is it means that his family knew he was mentally ill and therefor could have looked for help. This situation could have been avoided if he got the help he needed.

  5. The massacre in Newtown, CT was horrifying. It breaks my heart when I hear about it every day. I believe that it all comes down to his mental health. If he was capable of looking terrified children right in the eyes and pulling that trigger, he had issues that he should have taken care of. I'm guessing he had a lot of internal issues that weren't being properly taken care of.

  6. There is no excuse and logical reasoning for the shootings in Connecticut. The shooter must have had a rough childhood or an experience that scarred his life. So many innocent lives were taken, and this is completely insane. For someone to kill little children, his/her mom, and then commit suicide, is mindblowing and unjustified. The man was definitely a serial killer and he must have saw no purpose of living. I can't think of anyone in their "right" mind who would reason with this situation. I agree with Kristen, with the fact that sometimes therapy and guidance can help avoid events like this from happening. This is an unforgettable and unacceptable moment in history...

  7. The Sandy Hook Elementary shooting makes everyone start to think about things they never would've thought of. It makes all parents and children question the safety of their schools. The shooter clearly has issues with himself. For someone to do the things he did just doesn't make sense. Many people kill their parents because of traumatic experiences if they face a mental problem. People should've gave the shooter attention when he was younger and saw he had issues and it could've been prevented. Many parents dont want to face the fact that their child has mental issues and pretend like their normal and then things like this happen. For this man to shoot little innocent children for no reason he really must of been facing extreme mental problems.

  8. Thw shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary was a tragic event to happen. For someone to kill childern and other, had to have something wrong with them. Something must had happen to him during his child hood or maybe has some ind of epidemic, for him to just go out and kill people especially little children. He was most likely mentally ill and never got help. I think this situation could had been avoided if he had some help with his problems.

  9. The Sandy Hook Elementary shooting was not done in a logical state of mind. There was absolutely no reason that innocent children should have died. It went against all social norms, and it was against the law. The man must have had a severe mental illness to completely go against things that society teaches and enforces. He also went against a basic human instinct; a need for survival. There might have been earlier signs of mental illness that went unnoticed, or maybe ignored.

  10. Adam Lanza was known as an intelligent but quiet person. His graduating class known him as a loner and goth and said he was also fidgety. Since he was quiet and had no best friends during the high school days, people never really payed attention to him because he was just a nobody to them. Adam's mom taught him and his brother how to shoot at a shooting range and also had a stock of guns at home for safety. Another thing is he was known to have aspirer syndrome which is an autism spectrum disorder; he had difficulties of social interaction. Since Adam was a loner and learned how to shoot, he decided to kill his mother, students, teachers, principal, school psychologist and at the end, himself. I feel due to being a loner and this disorder he has been living with caused this brutal attack on these innocent people that were killed by Adam Lanza. He obviously had problems and obviously needed someone to help him.

  11. The massacre Sandy Hook Elementary is a very tragice event. It makes people wonder how someone could do such a horrible thing. People started to judge a book by its cover considering he was a quiet kid who had no friends, and minded his own buisness. Nobody would have thought someone like him would do such a thing. Or why he did it. Some say he had mental problems before but who could really tell.

  12. The massacre Sandy Hook elementary was terrible to the community. I think society in at community is just quiet and full of sorrow. I think people don't know what to do right I . I don't know how poeple are going to have Christmas without love ones. The big question i think many people have is why.

  13. While the massacre was a terrible tragedy, it's one that we seem unable to avoid. Recently, gun violence has risen in our country. With the Virginia Tech shooting back in 2007, to the recent shootings in a movie theater this past summer. We seem to mourn these deaths, cry in outrage and yet nothing comes of it. There are too many issues with the idea of these massacres; the fact that there are too many illegal guns out there that are unaccounted for, the fact that most background checks don't include mental health checks as well, and the fact that our government is too busy fighting over which political party is the best one to notice the real issues. So, we're going to mourn these deaths, we're going to be upset and scream at our government for change but as a society I doubt anything will come of it. The truth of the matter is we'll probably forget about this massacre in a couple of months just as we did the movie theater massacre back in the summer. I don't say this to be rude or to offend anyone, but I say it because it seems to be a pattern that our society repeats.

  14. The massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school is a terrible tragedy. It reminds me of the shootings at Virginia Tech and even Columbine. The fact that someone would do something like this makes me sick to my stomach. The big question here is why? Why would anyone think of doing this to someone let alone little kids.

  15. This shooting is horrible. My prayers go out to to all the families, I don't know what I would do if that was my child. This man should of never been able to he hold of a gun, especially beacuse he is mentally ill. The man probably did not get the attention he seeked so he probably tried to prove something. What sick person has the heart to kill little kids. It's very disturbing and the thought of it makes me sick. There was something seriously wrong with this man

  16. I think that the Sandy Hook shooting is definately beyond unbelievable. The fact that someone with mental disorders has the access to guns is ridiculous. A previous student in class with the murderer described him as "odd" and "antisocial", also mentioning how he constantly carried a brief case with him. This is definately not normal behavior for a young teen, i think if someone would have found him mentally unstable sooner maybe he could have got help and this horrific crime would not have been committed.

  17. i think what happened at the elementary school is just tragic. its so sad when someone just snaps and innocent lives are taken away. unfortunately, i dont think different gun laws would have changed anything. when people become crazy and put an idea into their mind, its really hard to try and make them think differently. im sure that if his mom had not owned all of those guns, he would have found another way of getting a gun. I dont even know what would be considered a right way to treat something like this. the person obviously had something mentally wrong with them. i feel like therapists can only do so much nowadays. half the time they just want to prescribe people medicine and turn them into vegetables just to sedate them. i think they need a different way to go about dealing with mentally ill people.

  18. This event is one of the most tragic in the past few years. Although the man who did this was mentally ill it is no excuse. I believe that this country needs guns outlawed. Even if they are outlawed there will still be people who would get their hands on them. However, the chance would be much less and crimes like these would be much rarer. I am pretty sure if guns were illegal this man would not have been able to kill all those innocent children and women. We also need more security. Unfortunately for the few crazy people out there changes have to be made. ID and pat down has to be done when entering any public building. Police need to be everywhere even on street corners in some cases. Windows are going to have to be extremely reinforced being that this man broke in through the window. Drastic changes need to be made to prevent any more of these events occuring.

  19. What happend at Sany Hook was such a tragedy and its so sick how someone can just shoot and kill innocent children. I feel that if Adam Lanza has something wrong with him he should have never been near any guns at all. While watching the news and reading articles online many people who knew Adam said he was "shy" and " not social" If this was the case Adam Lanza should have been watched a little more even being that he had autism. I feel that schools should be more cautious on who they let in to the buildings

  20. The events that transpired at Sandy Hook are pitiful and disgusting. The families of those who lost someone will never be the same again. But, the fact that the media was interviewing third graders especially so soon, isn't right by any means. I'm not saying the little kids are not intelligent, they know what occurred, but you can't just pull them aside and ask them about it on camera so I don't blame those who are putting up signs telling the stations to not even knock on their doors. Gun laws should be changed to only law enforcement and military, but it's a long stretch of that happening, so the next best thing is to add more security in the form of guards, alarms, bulletproof glass windows, and locking all doors of the schools and barring the windows of the bottom floors. The use of ID cards upon entering the building with a camera to capture the image of the person at the door also if they are even able to do that would also help. All these additions to security would get rid of so many potential school mass shootings and maybe even make it near to impossible for such an event to occur. That way with all the additional security in these forms, all people in the building will feel safe and can focus on what's important, their work. If you can't outlaw guns, then additional security is the next best thing and more realistic one in line

  21. What happened at Sandy Hook was horrifying. To know that a humanbeing could go and take so many lives of innocent children is disgusting. Also the fact that his mother, knowing he had mental issues, had taught him how to use a gun is terrible. Children are very intelligent and posting it all over the news shows other children what has occurred. I've heard stories of kids being afraid to go the school because of what they've seen on the news. Posting the killers face all over the news is just making him known, or in a sense "famous". Media should focus more on the lives of those children lost, and not publisize the killer. If another mentally ill person tries to top this horrible tragedy because he wants to be well known. People are strange and do crazy things and we need to be smarter about our approach to society.

  22. What happened at Sandy Hook was horrible, this youngman obviously had some serious issues that were not dealt with. For innocent children and teachers to lose thier lives for know apparent reason is extremely troubling to me. Parents must seek the help for their children, they cannot hide them or shelter them. Sooner or later the issues will arise. Mental health is something that has to be addressed these incidents cannot continue to happen. This was a very sad day for this country. We must hold at an early age decide that certain things that our children may do are not cute or funny. Until parents, adults or guardians dael with reality of their children and not cover things up, ist sad but true these type of incidents will continue to happen.

  23. The shooting at Sandy Hook was obviously terrible and heart breaking for families involved. Even my mom was crying for two days over it because she could only imagine how it would feel for that to happen to her, and to spend Christmas without her child like these families. The man who did this is one of those crazy people we hear about, but now we do know how sick people can get in our society which can open our eyes more to this. I don't know what his reason was or what mental illness he had but that doesn't really give any excuse. The children involved are probably traumatized which means they need therapy or some kind of help. As for gun control, these other states are too trusting- they want to keep their doors unlocked with everyone having a gun in their house, while in brooklyn we choose to lock our doors. Guns should not be held in houses and people like this man should not be taken to practice shooting at a shooting range by their mother, because it is not the gun, its the person who kills.

  24. This shooting was an absolute tragedy. Yes, the man did have a mental illness, and that should have been accounted for. When people have guns in a home, it should definitely be made sure that the home is a stable place. It's not that people shouldn't be allowed to have guns, it's that people with a mental disability should not have such easy access to guns, especially if they're not receiving treatment. I also agree with Samantha that making these crimes so publicized and making the killers famous is just giving people ideas to commit copycat murders or making people kill just for that attention.

  25. This massacre was absolutely horrific to here about. Even though the man was later proven to be mentally ill, he should have been institutionalized a long time ago to prevent a situation such as this one. Also the fact that he was able to get his hands on a gun so easily is also a major problem. Yes the public should know about terrible occurrences such as this one, but they should not be as big as they are. Because when you are dealing with people that are sick in the head you never know what they are thinking. MAYbe there is someone out there that may say to themselves, "I can make an incident that is even bigger than Sandy Hook or Columbine.
